One dead, another injured in oil tank blast

Oil well equipment in the Uintah Basin.

Authorities in the Uintah Basin are working with federal investigators to determine what caused an explosion of an oil tank Tuesday evening which killed one man and injured another. The blast occurred just after 8:30 Tuesday night next to a crude oil well near Myton – about  20 miles south of Roosevelt.

Rope swing deaths could mean new rules

In a five-week period two men have died near Moab who were engaging in a new extreme sport, back country rope swinging. As a result, the Bureau of Land Management is studying whether stricter rules should be in place. UPR's Jon Kovash reports.

Flooding in St. George leaves mud and debris


St. George street crews are mopping up a day after a 15-minute downpour caused mud and other debris to clock storm drains and flood city streets with nearly three feet of water in some areas.

St. George street crews had to wait for the rain to stop and water to drain away before they could work to remove mud and debris from clogged drainage grates.

Ironman triathlon in St. George coincides with release of anticipated Iron Man 3

The ironclad superhero flies through the sky, builds his own weapons and saves the world. He's known around the US as Iron Man.

But St. George recognizes the word differently than a three-part movie series. The Southern Utah city holds a competition every year called Ironman 70.3.

On May 4 the triathlon and the release of Iron Man 3 coincided perfectly. While participants stood in the registration line, a burgundy banner posted in the background advertised the release of the new movie.

Court-ordered review of Ruby Pipeline underway

A new environmental review is underway to assess the long-term impacts of the Ruby Pipeline. Last year, a federal appeals court ruled the government’s original environmental appraisal of the project was inadequate. UPR’s Matt Jensen has the story.

Herbert Chooses new Director of Utah Department Of Transportation

Governor Gary R. Herbert named Carlos Braceras the executive director of UDOT Monday, to replace reitred director John Njord.  Braceras is now responsible for UDOT’s 1,800 employees and the design, construction, and maintenance of Utah’s 6,000-mile system of roads and highways.
