Some Utah military families are getting a little holiday boost this week with the support of service groups throughout the state.

Thursday, Utah State University Extension 4-H, in cooperation with the Family Assistance Center and Operation Military Kids, is hosting a holiday party for military families in Cache County. The tradition of the party began three years ago when the service partners saw a need for it in the community.

"There were a lot of Utah National Guard people that were deployed throughout the world for different conflicts that were going on," said Scott Williams with USU Extension 4-H. "We just saw it as an opportunity to give back to the military families and support the military families as a service project for our 4-H kids."

Operation Military Kids provides support to military youth and families throughout the deployment process. The party is one of many support efforts sponsored by the group throughout the state.

Activities this year will include dinner, craft projects, a bounce house and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Though it will fun, Williams said the party is not just for the kids.

"One thing that we’ve noticed is it’s a great opportunity for the adults to get together and visit and have that time and gain that support," said Williams.

All active military personnel, veterans or anyone with a military connection are invited to participate in the festivities, which will take place at the National Guard Armory in Logan, Utah December 12 at 6 pm.  Those interested can RSVP by calling Kristine Smith from the Family Assistance Center at (801) 476-3811 or Scott Williams at (435) 752-6263.
