Utah Man Is Finalist for One-Way Trip To Mars

Ken Sullivan

Imagine taking a one-way trip to Mars.

For one Utah man what sounds like science fiction could soon be reality. Ken Sullivan of Farmington is one of about 1,000 finalists for the Mars-One expedition - part of an ambitious project to colonize the red planet by 2025. Matt Jensen reports:

Ken Sullivan is a helicopter pilot, licensed aircraft mechanic, Dixie State University graduate, a former EMT, and someone who has experience on the farm. The 38 year old said he’s wanted to travel to space since he was a kid.

About 202,000 people applied to take the trip, and just last week 1,058 finalists got word that they’d made it to the next round.

Next, Sullivan said he’ll undergo additional interviews and medical testing. After round three, candidates will be grouped together in international teams for training and scenarios. Sullivan said he doesn’t yet know if he’ll move on to additional rounds.
