USU Aviation soars to new (simulated) heights

The aviation program at Utah State University is getting a big upgrade to their training facilities.

USU Aviation Technology has acquired a new jet flight simulator. The simulator is a replica of the Bombardier CRJ 700 cockpit, and it will be used to prepare pilots for commercial jet flying.

According to its website, manufacturer Paradigm Shift Solutions says the simulator includes over 24,000 airports and the ability to “create and save very realistic training scenarios that can be performed time after time.”

USU aviation instructor Sean Heiner says the new simulator is a good investment for the program—and will keep USU Aviation competitive nationally.

"We're just really excited to have it. It just shows that our aviation program continues to move forward and keep up with the latest trends in the industry. It's great to have it, and I know this new [regional jet flight training device] will serve us well for the next ten-plus years."

The aviation program at USU has an enrollment of over 200 students. They offer four-year degrees in professional piloting or maintenance management.
