In the race for Utah Attorney General, John Swallow has jumped way ahead of Democratic rival Dee Smith in fundraising.
Swallow, the current Deputy Attorney General, has raised $1.23 million since shortly before he won the GOP nomination in June. In contrast, Weber County attorney Dee Smith has raised about $47,000 since mid-June.
Swallow is getting much of his cash—about $250,000 of it—from a national Republican political action committee, or PAC, with ties to the Las Vegas-based casino company Wynn Resorts and Karl Rove.
Swallow got another $120,000 from a PAC controlled by current Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who is not seeking reelection.
