An international bird conservation conference is coming to Utah, and some local coffee brewers will be there along with their message of environmentalism.
The Partners in Flight conference is coming to Snowbird ski resort near Salt Lake City. The event promises hundreds of scientists, conservationists and government officials from around the world, all focusing on conservation efforts for America’s declining bird populations.
Randy Wirth and his wife Sally, the founders of Caffe Ibis Coffee Roasting Company in Logan, Utah, will be attending the conference, selling coffee and spreading the word about the environmental impact of growing coffee beans.
Specifically, they will be promoting Smithsonian Shade-grown and bird friendly coffee, a certification that their coffee holds.
Caffe Ibis coffee is also fair-trade certified and organic certified. Wirth said he wants to promote this “triple-certification” for growing coffee while at the convention.
Wirth says he also hopes to promote the importance of biodiversity.
