Man missing near Hardware Ranch in Hyrum

A search is underway for a 21-year old Ogden man who went missing in Cache County Wednesday. According to Lt. Brian Locke of the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Jerry Duran’s family said he left from their campsite yesterday evening around 5:30 p.m. and did not return.

“We believe there was some kind of argument or disagreement at the camp with his family he was up there with,” Locke said.

Duran, who was last seen in a blue and white striped shirt and green sweat pants, had previously suffered a traumatic brain injury and is reported to be functioning on the level of a 7-year-old child.

The family was camping in the Curtis Creek area near Hardware Ranch in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.
The Cache County Sheriff’s office says that they received a call from Duran’s family and were dispatched around 3 a.m. Thursday.  Cache County Search and Rescue responded to area at 6 a.m.

“We’ve doubled our search teams since this morning. They’ll work this as long as they can, but I’m sure we’ll scale back into the night,” Locke said.

The search is scheduled to resume Friday if the boy is not found.
