One can scarcely venture outdoors from one end of the state to another without detecting the haze and scent of wildfires. The latest fire break out is near New Harmony, just south of Cedar City.
Nick Howell, from the Interagency Fire Center in Cedar City insists that the extraordinary conditions call for extraordinary precautions:
"Right now it's not worth the risk. Normal things that don't usually start fires are starting fires and it's causing a lot of concern for fire managers across the board."
The city of Hurricane in Southern Utah is apparently willing to follow Howell's advice. The extreme fire danger has prompted the city to completely cancel its annual 4th of July Fireworks display.
