All About Wildfires on AU Wednesday

This is shaping up to be a very busy fire season in the West, with several fires already burning in Utah.

We’ll talk about wildfires on Wednesday’s Access Utah: surviving them, fighting them, preventing them, along with fire policy.

Among Tom Williams’ guests:

  • Larry Johnson, a Wayne County man who was evacuated from his home because of a fire
  • BLM Utah Fire Management Officer, Sheldon Wimmer, who can talk from firsthand experience about fighting wildfires
  • USU Professor Mike Kuhns, who has studied fire in Utah’s wildland/urban interface
  • ASU Professor Stephen Pyne, author of Fire in America: A Cultural History of Wildland and Rural Fire, among other books.
Tom Williams worked as a part-time UPR announcer for a few years and joined Utah Public Radio full-time in 1996. He is a proud graduate of Uintah High School in Vernal and Utah State University (B. A. in Liberal Arts and Master of Business Administration.) He grew up in a family that regularly discussed everything from opera to religion to politics. He is interested in just about everything and loves to engage people in conversation, so you could say he has found the perfect job as host “Access Utah.” He and his wife Becky, live in Logan.
