Stephen Tanner is an award-winning journalist from San Diego, California.  Stephen began his radio career with Classical 89, KBYU.  In 2012, Stephen competed in the Hearst National Journalism Awards Championship in San Francisco and placed fourth in the nation.  Stephen is a graduate of Brigham Young University and lives in Provo.  He loves playing soccer and skiing the greatest snow on Earth.

'Flying Fortress' comes to Utah

An important piece of World War II history is in Salt Lake City. UPR’s Stephen Tanner tells us how you can be a part of it.

At the South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan, the buzz of small planes can be heard all around. But the roar of a different plane’s engines is making people around the Salt Lake Valley look up toward the sky.

This week the World War II era B-17 bomber named “Memphis Belle” is stopping in Salt Lake City. The non-profit Liberty Foundation helped restore the plane and is flying it around the country in its Salute to Veterans tour.

"Business Boot Camp" Gives Students an Edge

LDS Church, BYU Reach Agreement for Missionary Housing

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has found a short-term solution to their Missionary Training Center housing problem.  UPR’s Stephen Tanner tells us how the Church is turning to college apartments to help fill solve the problem.

The LDS Church has come to an agreement with the owner of the Raintree Commons apartment complex in Provo to lease housing for the sudden increase of new missionaries.

Sandy Responders Teach Utahns How to Save Animals During Disaster

Would you know what to do in case an earthquake hit Utah?  You may have a plan for your family, but what about your pets?  Superstorm Sandy first responders are teaching Utah agencies how to save animals as well as families in case of emergency.

Animal experts from all over Utah gathered at the 4th annual Animals in Disaster Workshop at the Provo Marriott.  The workshop educates different agencies about what to do with pets in case a natural disaster hit Utah.

Allegiant Air Announces New Flights From Provo During Uncertain Times for Small Airport

Allegiant Airlines announced a new route from Provo to Oakland, Calif. amidst uncertainty of the future of the air traffic control tower.

Provo city and Allegiant Air announced a second flight route from the Provo Airport.  But as UPR’s Stephen Tanner tells us, federal budget cuts might make flying from Provo a little harder.

Utah Valley University Announces Expansion Plan

Utah Valley University was granted the funds to build a new facility by the Utah Legislature. If Governor Herbert signs the bill, the project will move forward in the summer.

On Monday, Utah Valley University announced plans of an expansion to its campus in Orem.  UPR’s Stephen Tanner tells us why the new expansion is much needed for a crowded UVU campus. 

The Utah State Legislature recently approved 54 million dollars for UVU to build a 240 thousand square foot building.   The classroom building was approved by the House and Senate at the close of the Legislature’s 2013 session. Now all it needs is Governor Gary Herbert’s signature.

A Provo 7-Eleven Promotes Literacy with Mini-Library for Children

To create a culture of reading in his community, one man turns to Slurpees. This is how a Provo store owner is encouraging children to read.

A 7-Eleven sits on 300 South and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Customers come and go to buy gas, food and of course slurpees. But this 7-Eleven has something you wouldn’t expect from a convenience store, it’s running a mini-library for children.

Man hit by SUV and killed by FrontRunner in Provo Friday Morning

Provo police say at 7:30 Friday morning, a 69-year-old man riding his bike was struck by an SUV at a train crossing in Provo.  The car knocked the man off his bike onto the train tracks. 

A FrontRunner train had recently left the Provo station before the train’s engineer noticed debris on the track and tried to stop.  The train could not stop before it hit the man on the tracks.

Fire Breaks out in Lindon Warehouse

At 4:30 a.m. Wednesday a fire broke out at Patch’s Majestic Metal warehouse near 500 North and State Street in Lindon. Firefighters from Orem, Provo and American Fork battled the blaze for five hours before they could contain it.  The fire destroyed the entire warehouse and a home nearby.  The occupants of the home were able to escape before the fire destroyed it completely.
