Mackinzie Hamilton started her career in 2009 as a reporter for 610 AM KVNU and staff writer for Cache Valley Daily.com before joining UPR in 2011. A freshman at Utah State University, she is majoring in Journalism and communications with a minor in vocal performance.
Some welfare recipients may be required to undergo drug tests to qualify for benefits under a bill that has passed the house. Republican Representative Brad Wilson of Kaysville explained last week that anyone who fails a drug test could enroll in a treatment program to avoid losing their benefits. Utah faces a shortage of affordable housing for low-income households, but the Olene Walker Housing Fund has managed to help keep thousands of Utahns from being homeless. The Fund has also managed to keep off the federal housing cuts chopping block.
